How to read this dashboard

Use this page to compare water utility infrastructure, costs, prices, seismic resilience, renewal, and financial health.

Who is counted: Water utilities, pipeline networks, operating costs, served population, and prefecture-level infrastructure indicators.
What the number means: Metrics include unit price, total cost, population served, pipelines past useful life, pipeline renewal rate, seismic compliance, revenue recovery, and financial-health bands.
How to read it: Direction varies. Lower aging pipeline share is better; higher renewal, seismic compliance, and revenue recovery are better. Prices and costs need context because cheap water can coexist with underinvestment.
Why it matters: Water systems face aging infrastructure, disaster risk, shrinking populations, and fiscal pressure. These metrics show whether utilities are financially and physically sustainable.
