Research Note 010·2026-06-23·Visual wasabi evidence index

Can buyers actually find and order Japanese wasabi online?

A plain-English visual audit of 20 public wasabi-source pages. The sample asks whether buyers can move from product visibility to source proof and a practical next buying step.

Plain-English takeaway

The public web makes Japanese wasabi surprisingly buyable. It does not always make serious procurement easy.

What this asks

If a chef, shop, or serious food buyer wanted Japanese wasabi, could they verify the source and understand the next buying step?

What the answer looks like

Wasabi is often visible and orderable online. The weak layer is procurement: wholesale intake, quote paths, repeat supply, and comparable source terms are inconsistent.

What the charts show

Buyer usefulness slightly beats source-path clarity. Marketplaces make checkout easier, but they can also blur origin, local match, and procurement-grade routes.

Infographic

The buyer path has four simple questions

A wasabi page can be easy to buy from and still weak for serious procurement. The audit separates consumer checkout from source-path proof.

1

Find

Can a buyer find a real wasabi product, farm, shop, marketplace listing, or public contact?

15/20 rows had at least a usable buyer path

2

Verify

Can the buyer see enough origin, producer, cultivation, water, stock, or product detail to trust the route?

7/20 rows had clear source-path proof

3

Act

Can the buyer order, ask, compare pack sizes, or start a serious repeat purchase without guesswork?

10/20 rows were strong for buyer usefulness

4

Audit

Can JP Data preserve what was checked without treating blocked marketplace captures as equal to first-party evidence?

11/20 rows have Tier A first-party captures

Chart 1

Evidence quality: marketplace blocks matter

Tier A means the original page loaded and was archived directly. Tier B means the browser hit a block, so the row depends on a labeled reader-proxy or alternate capture.

Tier A · direct page capture

11 rows

Usable for page-level archive evidence, with normal source checks.

Tier B · blocked or fallback

9 rows

Useful only when the access-limit caveat stays attached.

Chart 2

The score gap

Wasabi pages are slightly better at enabling a retail-style action than at proving a clean, procurement-grade source path.

Buyer usefulness

Can a buyer order, ask, compare, or repeat the purchase?

6.7/10

Source-path clarity

Can a buyer understand where the wasabi route comes from?

6.1/10

Chart 3

What kind of pages were found?

The sample leans heavily toward marketplaces and producer-shop pages. That helps orderability, but it does not automatically create wholesale or restaurant procurement infrastructure.

Graph

Each dot is one checked wasabi page

Dots higher up have clearer source-path evidence. Dots farther right are easier for a buyer to act on. The spread shows why wasabi cannot be reduced to online-or-not-online.

Upper-right: clear source proof and useful buying path.

Lower-right: easy marketplace action, but weaker origin or local match.

Lower-left: empty, blocked, nonlocal, or low-proof buyer trails.

What a normal reader should take from this

Wasabi is visible

Many checked pages make Japanese wasabi easy to find: marketplaces, producer shops, farm/tourism stores, regional shops, and product pages all appear in the sample.

That means the weak finding is not simple invisibility. Buyers can often see products, prices, shipping, payment, producer names, origin stories, and reviews.

Procurement is less obvious

A serious buyer needs more than a retail cart. Restaurants, shops, and repeat buyers need clearer wholesale intake, quote paths, volume terms, delivery continuity, and source-proof fields.

The sample often routes buyers through consumer-commerce infrastructure. That can be useful for small orders, but it is not the same as procurement infrastructure.

Marketplaces help and blur

Marketplace pages improve orderability because they expose checkout, payment, reviews, and stock signals. They also blur the audit when pages are national, mixed, blocked, or only category-level.

The safest reading is a measurement gap: public wasabi access exists, but source-path clarity and buyer-ready procurement are unevenly captured by the public web.

Weak layer

9

Rows scored 5/10 or lower for source-path clarity.

Both usable

9

Rows scored at least 7/10 on both buyer usefulness and source-path clarity.

Safe conclusion

The finding is a buyer-readiness gap: consumer-commerce visibility is real, but procurement infrastructure is uneven.
